160 tons

According to the East Azerbaijan Central Radio News Agency, Mr. Rahim Hamedi, a resident of Sargizeh village in Maragheh, has harvested more than 160 tons of apple trees from each hectare of his garden.

He stated that the reason for his success was using the recommendations of the experts, using modern horticultural methods, timely pruning of trees, pest control and the use of biofertilizers.

Mr. Hamedi’s garden product was collected and introduced as a sample in the presence of experts from the Horticultural Research Center, Agricultural Jahad of the province and the city.

It is estimated that about a thousand tons of crops will be harvested from the gardener’s six-hectare garden.

The director of Maragheh Agricultural Jahad Office said: the average harvest of apple trees in the orchards of the province is 30 tons per hectare, and this gardener has produced 5 times the average of the province.

Ismail Karimi Asl added: Maragheh has 12,000 hectares of apple orchards and more than 300,000 tons of crops are harvested annually from these orchards.

He continued: “A large part of the product produced in Maragheh is exported to other provinces of the country and abroad due to its high quantity and quality.”
