Ayub Shiri was sentenced to 1 year in prison and 74 lashes

Ayub Shiri, an Azerbaijani activist arrested during the 1398 Aban protests, was sentenced by the Tabriz 2nd Criminal Court to one year in prison and 74 lashes.

The sentence was suspended for one year. In addition to postponing the verdict, Shiri was sentenced to provide 10 million tumens of health items to needy families.

According to the verdict of the 2nd Court of Tabriz, Shiri was sentenced to 1 year in prison and 74 lashes for “violation of public order and peace.” This sentence will remain in force for 1 year.

In addition, in part of the lawsuit against Shiri, in addition to the delay in the verdict, Shiri must buy medical supplies such as masks, gloves, detergents, hand towels worth 10 million tomans due to the spread of the coronavirus and the high cost and scarcity of health items. The funds will be handed over in coordination with the Relief Committee for the disabled and people with certain diseases under the supervision of the Revolution and the general dadistan of Tabriz.

It should be noted that Ayub Shiri was detained by security forces in Tabriz during the Aban protests of 1398 and transferred to Tabriz prison after about three months of interrogation.
Shiri was finally released on January 7, 1998, in exchange for a license.
