Khoy Commander: The damage from yesterday’s quake was minimal

Seyyed Mohammad Abedi

Khoy’s commander said there were few injuries in the quake that struck the surrounding villages of Gotur after lunch yesterday.

Seyyed Mohammad Abedi said that the epicenter of the earthquake felt in Gotur on Thursday was in Turkey and 22 kilometers from Gotur. The commander said that small cracks appeared in some plaster houses in the earthquake and that they would meet with the banks in the region to compensate for the damage.
According to the IRNA news agency, the governor of Khoy said that 90 percent of the roofs that collapsed in the earthquake in Isfand last year had been removed and repairs had begun.
Seyyid Mohammad Abedi Shahrivar said he hopes to complete the repair and construction work by the end of the month.
A 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook Gotur settlement at 14:33 on Thursday.
Last year, on the fourth of Isfand, a relatively strong earthquake occurred in Gotur and later in Zarabad. The quake destroyed 4,000 homes and damaged 1,000 homes. There were also injuries and many animals lost their lives.
It should be noted that due to economic difficulties and insufficient control in the Azerbaijani settlement, the buildings are strong enough to withstand an earthquake. This problem can sometimes cause minor injuries in small earthquakes.
