Elections started, 7000 compete on 290 seats

TEHRAN, IRAN - JUNE 14: Iranians show their finger after casting their vote in the first round of the presidential election at a polling station June 14, 2013 in Tehran, Iran. Four years after the disputed re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranians are voting to choose a new president in an election which reformists are hopeful that their sole candidate will win in the face of divided conservative ranks. Iran’s parliamentary elections started.

Information was given by the Iranian Interior Ministry. All polling stations throughout the country have already been opened.

Seven thousand candidates are fighting for 290 mandates in the election.

The main advantage of the Iranian parliament is currently the reformers. Experts predict that conservatives will win this election. This is particularly the case when the Iranian Constitution Protection Council does not allow a large number of reformist candidates to stand for election.
