Sajjad Shahiri summoned to court

Sajjad Shahiri, a national activist living in the Azerbaijani city of Sulduz, Iran, was summoned to the Sulduz criminal court in accordance with a statement received by the court’s electronic system.

Sajjad was accused by Judge Seyed Ali Mousavi, chairman of the 16th Department of the General and Revolutionary Court of Tabriz, of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “membership in the separatist GAMAC.”

The case of the national activist was sent from the General and Revolutionary Court of Tabriz to the Second Criminal Court of Sulduz, and Sajjad Shahiri will present his defense in the 103rd Department of this court on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “membership in the separatist GAMAC.”

Shahiri was arrested on January 16, 2020 by Iranian government intelligence agents and transferred to the prison of the Ministry of Intelligence in the Iranian city of Tabriz for investigation.

Sajjad Shahiri was finally transferred from the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center to Tabriz Central Prison on March 2 of that year and was temporarily released on bail of 500 million tomans pending a final court decision.

He has been arrested several times by Iranian security forces. Shahiri was arrested along with dozens of national activists during the Babek Tower events on July 20, 2018, and was later released.
