The Kava-Suda quarry continues to cause tragedy

Bunab

For nearly 20 years, the surrounding villages of Bunab have been deprived of drinking water due to the poisoning of groundwater by the Kava-Suda quarry.

According to TazaKend residents, only one tap water was pumped to 500 houses from the water pipeline from Jigati to Tabriz. Water poisoning and water shortages affect not only the villages but also the cities of Bunab and Maragha.

Thus, the population has been facing water shortages for more than two months. Due to the low water pressure, the residents were completely deprived of drinking water. According to residents, they can use water only at 11 o’clock at night. All this also happens during the spread of coronavirus.

According to the villagers, they are forced to use the contaminated water in agriculture and livestock, and indirectly, the toxic substances enter their food cycle. Residents say the tragedy will happen soon if no action is taken. Residents, of course, also expressed hope that the issue would be considered. It is said that the population has been raising the issue with various officials for years, but so far they have not seen any steps taken.

It should be noted that the Kava-Suda quarry is located in the Garanaz region of Maragha. This quarry was founded in 1383. Its official owner is Haji Ibrahim Asgariyan. He reportedly has quarries in many cities in Iran and Syria.

According to some reports, the quarry in Kawa-suda was run by Sipah. Some residents attribute the quarry’s continued activities in the wake of such tragedies to the fact that the quarry belongs to Sipah.

It should be noted that some people say that the quarry produces detergent, and some say that it produces regular chemical substances.
