With the onset of summer, many cities are facing water shortages. According to Deputy Energy Minister Gasim Tagizade, water shortages have plagued 170 cities, with more than 50 problems. At the same time, 45 percent of the population does not have access to adequate water. On the other hand, water consumption in major cities has risen due to the prevalence of corona. For example, residents of Tehran in recent weeks have spent as much water as the capacity of three cities.

According to Tagizade, 10,900,000 people living in rural areas are deprived of sustainable water use.
He also says that 90 percent of the country’s water is spent on agriculture.

According to the Deputy Minister, climate change has changed the rainfall system. At the same time, rainfall has increased in areas such as Baluchistan and Hormozgan, which have received less rainfall in the past. At the same time, rainfall has decreased in masters such as East and West Azerbaijan, which have a lot of rainfall.

At the same time, according to experts, the coming summer will be warmer than in the past 30 years. At the same time, the autumn rains start late and will be less than normal compared to previous years.

In this regard, the head of the crisis department of the water department Farham Karkani says:
This year, 9 masters, including Baluchistan, Kerman, Homozgan, Isfahan, South and North Khorasan, Alahvaz, Persia, Kirman have problems with water supply. For example, 92 percent of South Khorasan is facing drought and is in crisis.

There is a problem with water supply to 4,200 villages in the Alahvaz district. In these areas, they can use drinking water every 2 weeks or every 10 days.
