220 staff of a hospital in Tehran infected with coronavirus

COVID-19

The director of Tehran’s Modares Hospital reported that nearly 220 members of the hospital’s medical staff and support staff had contracted the coronavirus.

Hossein Badakhshan told the ISNA news agency on Tuesday, October 13, that the rate of infection among the medical staff is such that “there are always about 30 colleagues on sick leave.”

He said the widespread outbreak of coronavirus among treatment staff occurred while all hospital beds were full and there were always “between 25 and 30 patients in the emergency room waiting to be replaced by discharged patients.”

Over the past few months, officials at the Ministry of Health have repeatedly warned of the extreme fatigue of hospital staff, medical staff and other forces involved in the crisis.

Amnesty International said in July that of the 79 countries in the world, Iran, along with the United States, Russia or Egypt, had the highest number of deaths among members and aid workers during the Covid-19 epidemic.

According to the latest official statistics announced by Reza Golpira, one of the directors of the Ministry of Health, on August 1 this year, 19,000 medical staff in Iran have been infected with coronary artery, of which 11,000 to 12,000 were nurses.
