Protests In Iran: For Petrol Price Or For Better Life?

The protests happened in different cities of Iran together with the cities in South Azerbaijan have not been aimed at the decrease of petrol price only, but at the same time the protesters are trying to express their aim to change the regime in Iran.

Aznews TV- The protests started on October 16th after Iran government announced its program to make an increase in the price of petrol and also declared that it will be rationed. It’s not first time in Iran that the government makes increases in the prices of the goods and services, but this time the reactions made by the people was very extensive and widespread.

For the first time during the period between 2006 and 2019, Turks in Iran, Mostly residing in South Azerbaijan, participated in the nationwide protests in Iran. While in the previous protests they stand still to look at the protests happened in other parts of Iran. Likewise, other nations in Iran never supported protests performed previously by the Turk nation in Iran.

It seems that the recent protests have not been aimed at the decrease of petrol price only, but at the same time the protesters are trying to express their aim to change the regime in Iran. With regard to the slogans made by the protesters in the different cities of Iran, we can understand that the people in Iran are looking for a democratic and responsible government in Iran instead of the existent theocratic or kleptocratic government. They are against clerics’ hegemony in the country and they are against the regimes foreign policy.

At the same time, people in South Azerbaijan and even in some other cities mostly resided by Turks made some slogans in Turkish, their mother language, reflecting the claims on behalf of the human rights and their denied identity.

Iran has confirmed death of a protester as well as a policeman during the protests. But, in the absence of independent reporters, according to the informal news published mostly through social networks, it seems that the number of the victims and the injured is more. Remember that Iranian police and security forces are very aggressive, and they are not responsible for anybody or any organization else the Supreme Leader who called the protesters as thugs in his latest comments about the protests.

At the meantime, the government has interrupted internet connection into the country in order to prevent publishing news about the protests and also to cut any possible communication among political activists.

Yesterday some MPs stated that the Islamic Parliament will discuss the case. But after the last remarks made by the Supreme Leader who supported the decision made by the government to increase the price of the petrol, MPs had no other choice but to be silent!

Now, the results of the protests against the increase in the price of the petrol in clear; it will not be changed. But, what about the protests against Islamic regime in Iran? It seems that the people in Iran will not be able to make the aggressive as well as suppressive regime to withdraw, unless the world helps them to do that.
