Northern Azerbaijan is ahead of Russia and Iran in natural gas exports

According to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), Northern Azerbaijan has become the first country to export natural gas to Turkey. In the first half of this year, Turkey imported 5 billion 444 million cubic meters of natural gas from northern Azerbaijan.

This is an increase of 23.4 percent in Turkey’s wealth compared to the first half of last year.

According to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority, in the first six months of this year, Turkey’s gas imports from Russia decreased by 41.5 percent. During this period, Turkey imported 4 billion 678 million cubic meters of gas from Russia. This figure was 7 billion 993 million for the same period last year.

Last year, Russia was the largest exporter of natural gas to Turkey, followed by Northern Azerbaijan. According to the report, in the first half of this year, Turkish gas exports from Iran decreased by 46 percent. During this period, Turkish gas exports from Iran amounted to 2 billion 29 million cubic meters.

With the opening of the North Azerbaijan gas corridor, a significant part of Turkey’s gas needs will be met by Azerbaijan. Northern Azerbaijani gas will also reach the European Union via the Southern Gas Corridor via Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Albania and Italy.
