Alireza Farshi, an Azerbaijani Turk civil activist, was arrested in Tehran.

Farshi had been arrested before, for the charge of participating in a ceremony on the International Mother Language Day.

Alireza Farshi, an Azerbaijani Turk civil activist, was arrested at his office in Tehran on Wednesday (Jan 8). His family has not yet been officially informed about his arrest, so nobody knows anything about the reasons of that.

Farshi had been arrested before, for the charge of participating in a ceremony on the International Mother Language Day. Despite of the campaigns to free him he was sentenced to 15 years in prison as well as 2 years in exile on the lower court.

He was tried again in the court of appeals together with three other Azerbaijani Turk activists Akbar Azad, Behnam Sheykhi and Hamid Manafi on 12,23,2019. While he and other activists as well as human rights activists were waiting for the appeal verdict, he was arrested again in his office and he is in custody from yesterday without an officially declared reason.
