An Azerbaijani activist has been sentenced to six months in prison in Iran

An Azerbaijani activist living in the western Azerbaijani city of Sulduz has been sentenced to six months in prison by the 103rd Department of the Sulduz City Criminal Court.

Sajjad Shahiri was sentenced to six months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime” under Articles 18, 19, and 500 of the Islamic Penal Code, according to the verdict of the Sulduz City Criminal Court, chaired by Gazi Amir Kiumersi.

The Azerbaijani cultural activist was also acquitted of “illegal membership in GAMAC” under Article 4 of Iran’s new Criminal Procedure Code, Article 120 of the Islamic Penal Code, and Article 37 of the Constitution.

It should be noted that the verdict was not notified in writing to the accused Shahiri in accordance with the second note of Article 380 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and he only made some notes from this decision.

Shahri, an Azerbaijani activist, was charged with “propaganda against the regime” and “membership in GAMAC” in the 16th department of the General Investigation Department of Tabriz, headed by Seyid Ali Mousavi.
