Mohammad Khakpour was acquitted by the Kalaybar Revolutionary Court

The trial of the national activist accused of “propaganda against the system” was held on June 22.

Mohammad Khakpour was arrested on July 5, 2018 during the Babek Fortress ceremony and taken to the Ahar city prison, where he was released after 3 days of detention. During his detention, the activist, like other activists detained with him, was beaten and tortured by security forces.

Dozens of national-cultural activists were detained in different cities of South Azerbaijan along with the famous Babek Fortress ceremony held in July 2018.

At that time, Amnesty International issued a statement in Turkish, Persian and English about the Azerbaijani activists detained during the Babek Fortress march and on Mount Savalan, demanding the unconditional release of activists detained in prisons and the acquittal of other detained activists. The statement said that 120 activists were detained during the ceremonies.

Khakpour has been repeatedly detained by security forces and subjected to various pressures for his cultural struggle for the democratic and national rights of Azerbaijanis.
