Sweden says Iran has denied access to detained dissident Habib Chaab

Swedish-Iranian dissident

Sweden has stated that the Islamic Republic has not yet granted consular access to an Iranian-Swedish citizen who disappeared in Turkey and was transferred to a prisoner in Iran.

Iranian state media reported last month that Habib Assioud, a Swedish resident and former leader of a separatist group active in Khuzestan, had been arrested.

A Swedish Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday that diplomats had not yet had consular access to Habib Asud, a Swedish citizen.

“As soon as we heard about the reports, we started an investigation through our foreign missions in Sweden and Iran,” Eric Carlson told AFP. “The case has also been discussed with the Turkish and Iranian ambassadors in Stockholm.”

Tehran accuses Mr. Assoud of leading the Hizb ut-Tahrir, also known as the Al-Ahwaz Arab Liberation Movement.
