On October 26, cultural activists posted slogans on the city walls in protest of the illegal detention of Azerbaijani activists in Ardabil for nearly a month.
Among the slogans written on the walls of Ardabil are the following words:
“Release Azerbaijani cultural figures and political activists”
“Release activists supporting the liberation of Karabakh”
It should be noted that after the peaceful rallies in support of the liberation of Karabakh and the operations of the Azerbaijani Army in Geral Park in Ardabil on September 28, Iranian security and police forces attacked the rallies and severely beat many Azerbaijani activists.
Asgar Akbarzadeh, Engineer Ali Kheyrju, Bahman Kheyrju, Muqtaba Parvin, Murtaza Parvin, Mustafa Parvin, Meysam Joulani, and Mehdi Hushmand are still being held in Ardabil’s Sham Asbi prison despite a court order to release them on bail of 500 million tomans.
Following the September 28 rally in Ardabil’s Geral Park, similar protests took place several times in various Azerbaijani cities and Tehran, and many Azerbaijani activists were arrested during the protests.
