A Turkmen media activist has been detained by Iranian security forces

Hamed Purmand

Hamed Purmand, a cultural activist living in Iran, a sports journalist, and head of the Bampush Gonbad and Turkmen Sport websites, was detained by security forces on Saturday after being summoned to court.

The Turkmen activist was arrested after appearing in the Gonbad Kavus district court to defend himself against “slander, defamation, indecent remarks and insults” filed against him by the Golestan Sabah dairy company.

Earlier, Turkmen activist Purmand launched a campaign on social networks with the hashtag “Sabah” to boycott Sabah’s dairy products.

Imprisoned Azerbaijani activist Abbas Lisani was quoted by Iranian security and intelligence forces as saying that Turkmen activist Hamed Purmand, who lives in Gonbad Kavus, had been repeatedly interrogated by Iranian security and intelligence forces for his peaceful cultural activities, Telegram reported, citing Turkmen Sahara news sources.
