Iran has been with Armenia to the best of its ability since the beginning of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. As Georgia’s borders are currently closed both by air and land, Armenia is once again the lifeblood of Armenia. Armenia, which has no serious source of energy, needs more and more as the days of war going on. In this case, as it was 30 years ago, today Iran has come to the aid of Yerevan. However, this time the Azerbaijani army is advancing strongly and managed to liberate some of the occupied territories. However, Iran is well aware of the heavy cost of Armenia’s support policy in South Azerbaijan.
Tabriz showed the difference again
It is now clear to everyone that any protest in Iran is severely suppressed by the government. Therefore, in spite of all the high potential for protest, it is not easy to protest in Iran. Especially in terms of foreign policy, Iran is extremely radical. However, the Azerbaijani nation took a historic step and twice protested.
Yesterday, there were more widespread protests in Tabriz, and people took to the streets to demand the closure of Iran’s open border with Armenia. Prior to these protests, an incredible police force had sprung up in all Azerbaijani cities. Hundreds and even thousands of police officers, especially in Tabriz, had gathered in places where protests were expected, preventing the nation from coming together. However, the Azerbaijani nation showed great courage and raised its voice in protest. According to reports from Tabriz, more than a hundred people were arrested during the protests, and police severely beat the nation. The video also shows police using plastic bullets. In addition, Azerbaijani national activists were arrested in several cities where protests had not begun yesterday. In other words, those who protested against the most sensitive policy of the government in the streets of Tabriz yesterday were the nation itself and its voice. Therefore, Iran can no longer serve Armenia, as it did 30 years ago in Karabakh.
Azerbaijan has shown its will
It is true that these protests were censored by Persian media, as always. However, the voice of Tabriz was widely spread, especially in Turkish media. In addition, the countries of the region are well aware of the political will and strength of South Azerbaijan. The liberation of Karabakh has caused serious excitement among the Turks in the South. This situation has extremely frightened and worried about Tehran. Therefore, now that large-scale protests can begin in Iran and the nation can stand up for broad and basic aspirations, the will of Azerbaijan will be decisive.
Support for Karabakh and protests against Iran’s policy of support for Armenia will be extremely important not only in the North but also in the South for the future of Azerbaijan.
