Dam works are being carried out on the Araz River

The governor of the Poldasht region of the West Azerbaijan province: “Currently, a 6,700-meter-long dam is being built on the Araz River.”

Mehran Safari told ISNA that 6,700-meter-long dams are being built along the banks of the Araz River in three parts of the region. “This operation is being carried out at a cost of 25 billion tomans,” he said.

He further noted the signing of protocols between Iran and Azerbaijan in this area: “The goal of the dam on the banks of the Araz River is to stabilize the bottom of the river, as well as to protect villages along the river from seasonal floods and prevent flooding of the Araz River.”

In conclusion, Safari added that restoration work has been carried out along the river bank for 33 km since the start of dam works on the Araz River. “The project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of this year,” he said.
