According to Yusuf Gaffarzadeh, Lake Urmu has decreased by 33.2 square kilometers since the beginning of this year’s water year, ie by the month of Mehr, and by an average of 17.65 square kilometers.

Gaffarzadeh said that the water balance of Lake Urmu is estimated at 3.21 billion cubic meters, which is 50 million cubic meters less than in the same period last year and 110 million cubic meters at the beginning of the water year, and 12.56 million cubic meters less than in the long run.

Agil Aqdesi, director of water and resource research at the East Azerbaijan Regional Water Company, said that the reason for such a decrease in the water level of Lake Urmu was a decrease in rainfall last year.
