Chief of the Lake Urmu Reconstruction Staff Farhad Sarkhosh said that the area of Lake Urmu has expanded by more than 2,785 square kilometers.
This is twice as much as in 2014. The volume of water exceeded 3 billion 260 million cubic meters, the official said. This figure is more than 5 times higher than in 2015.
As part of a 10-year history, Iran has launched a program to rehabilitate Lake Urmu, which is 80 percent dry by 2015. It should be noted that the state budget for 2021 allocated 498 million tomans for the revival of the lake.
According to Farhad Sarkhosh, a certain budget should be allocated every year for the protection of Lake Urmu.
