Many ancient cells of the Tikantepe caravanserai were destroyed by the order of the non-local governor Naseh Mohammadkhani. It should be noted that Naseh Mohammadkhani was born in the city of Divandere and is a supporter of Kurdish terrorist groups.
Some time ago, he installed the Pejak’s logo on Tikantepe and tried to change the name of the city’s Boyuktepe district. The attempt provoked protests. His main supporter is Hussein Mikaili, head of the Tikantepe City Council, who was sentenced to eight years in prison on bribery charges.
This market, which dates back to the historical Gajar period, was built by architects from Tabriz by the order of the khans of the Afshar region of Azerbaijan. The 120-year-old building was later turned into a garage. In the month of Khurdad in 1399, the head of the Tikantepe Cultural Heritage Department, Amir Matlubi, said:
“The governor of Tikantepe must get permission from the Cultural Heritage Office before ordering the demolition of the shops in the historic market. The demolition of historic buildings for the construction of new stores is a matter of concern. Over the years, 40 historic buildings have been destroyed in the market. The number of historic buildings in the market has dropped from 230 to 190. Repair work was carried out in 50 shops. Demolition of buildings in the market has a negative impact on the protection of ancient architectural monuments of Tikantepe “
