
East Azerbaijan Road Police Chief said: the number of road accidents resulting in death since the beginning of this year, has decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year.
In an interview with IRNA on Monday, Col. Reza Kariminejad added: “This year, 193 accidents have resulted in deaths on the province’s roads, in which 228 people have died, while in the same period last year, 318 accidents occurred.”
He stated: out of this number, 131 people (57%) died on main roads, 40 people (18%) on secondary roads, 43 people (19%) on rural roads and 14 people (6%) died on the province’s freeways.
East Azerbaijan Road Police Chief said: “During this period, 126 people, equivalent to 59%, died on the scene, 100 people, equivalent to 44%, died in the hospital and 2 people, equivalent to 7%, died on the way to the hospital.”
Colonel Karimi Nejad continued: During this period, 2 thousand and 56 cases of injuries occurred in which 3,489 people were injured and 6 thousand and 898 accidents resulted in material damage, which compared to the same period last year, the number of Injury accidents decreased by 17%, the number of injured by 18% and damage accidents by 23%.
