Babek Kiumersi was taken to the central prison of Tabriz

Court in Tabriz

Azerbaijani political and cultural activist Babek Kiumersi was transferred from the Tabriz Information Department’s detention center to the Tabriz Central Prison on December 1 after two months of interrogation.

Two months later of Babek Kiumersi’s arrest, the Azerbaijani activist’s family appealed to the 16th Division of the General and Revolutionary Court in Tabriz, where they learned that the head of the division, Investigator Seyid Ali Mousavi, had issued a bail of 500 million tomans for Kiumersi.

However, the condition of another activist, Said Soltani, who is being held at the Tabriz Information Office, is still unknown. Initially, these activists were charged with “membership in opposition societies in the country.” Babek Kiumersi and Said Soltani were detained by security officers on October 4 in the eastern Azerbaijani city of Julfa.

After arresting the activists, Iranian security officials went to their homes, searched them without legal permission, and took their personal belongings with them. His wife was also beaten and insulted by security forces during the arrest.
