The coronavirus crisis seems out of control

Iran

The number of daily coronavirus deaths reported in Iran for weeks has not exceeded 100 people. But now it is reported that about 200 people die every day. Given that these numbers are likely to be many times less than the full statistics, we can say that a new era of the Coronavirus crisis has begun in Iran.

Iran went down in history as the first country in the world to experience a second wave of the Coronavirus. But now it is reported that the third wave of the disease will occur soon. The rituals of the month of Muharram were performed all over the country. Although the government promised to implement Muharram measures in accordance with health protocols, footage showed the opposite.

From Ali Khamenei to Hassan Rouhani, they insisted on the Muharram ceremony, and the result was as expected. Especially 2-3 weeks after the days of Ashura, now the whole Coronavirus crisis is manifesting itself. Today, it was announced that 3 thousand 341 more people were infected with the coronavirus. However, this is only an official figure, and all estimates suggest that the actual number of cases is much higher.

Although the month of Muharram has begun to take effect, the main concern now is the imminent impact of madrassas.

Madrassas will create a new wave

About 15 million students in Iran have started the new school year. According to the Iranian Ministry of Education, children are not required to attend classes in any madrassa. But the teachers and the whole madrassa staff will be ready and will be able to send the child they want to the madrassa.

On the other hand, in recent months, Iran has not been able to create any kind of distance learning opportunities. There is not enough internet access for this work, and not all madrassa children have tablets and phones to take advantage of this opportunity.

Although many different statistics have been released, it is understood that 70 percent of children in Iran do not have proper internet and distance learning opportunities, and at least 30 percent of students do not have any internet access. This is despite the fact that, for example, Zangan officials say that only 22 percent of madrassas have paid full attention to coronavirus activities.

According to the Ministry of Education, more than 10 percent of students go to madrassas.
According to Health Ministry officials, we will begin to see the effects of the opening of madrassas on the coronavirus in three weeks. It is estimated that by this time, the daily death toll will reach 300 to 400 people.

This number of deaths means that thousands of new patients are added every day. This is an enormous burden on Iran’s healthcare system, and is expected to be more difficult, especially for critically ill patients and those most at risk of death.

All this is in a situation where there is no serious support from the government. On the one hand, the number of unemployed in the country is said to be 20 million, and on the other hand, the number of people living below the poverty line is estimated at 60 million. This situation means that there is more famine in Iran than the Coronavirus. After the new American sanctions, the dollar rose to 27,000 tomans, and the prices of many basic necessities began to rise sharply.

In this case, a popular uprising, which the Iranian authorities have been talking about since the beginning, can always happen. Authorities are cracking down on protesters in the city of Abad. In this case, a public political explosion is expected at any moment.
