The situation in Evin Prison has worsened

27 political prisoners

Today, on the 20th of Murdad, 27 political prisoners sat in the courtyard of Tehran’s Evin Prison to protest against the spread of the coronavirus in Section 8 of Tehran’s Evin Prison.

They called for an immediate review of the deplorable situation in Section 8.

In recent days, 12 prisoners have been tested positive for the coronavirus, which has caused concern among other inmates and their families.

The following are the prisoners who are protesting in the prison:

Behnam Sheikh Samanlu, Hamid Manafi Nazarli, Alirza Farshi Dizaj Yekan, Behnam Mahjubi, Museib Rais Yegana, Amin Ligai, Asgar Shiri, Ruhulla Khizri, Asbin Jafarian, Behnam Musavand, Subhan Imani, Sina Salik, Amirrza Mahmud, Amirrza Mahmudi Yasin Camanli, Behruz Sultanlu, Manuchehr Blurian, Arash Shirzadi, Ahmed Farsi, Mohsen Farid, Seyid Mehdi Mustafavi, Aliza Khosro Jarabi, Amir Hussein Mir Khalili, Murtaza Karimi, Murtaza Purali and Mohammad Hadi Mehrani.

As a result of the sit-in protest, the head of the 8th Section Bagiri appeared in front of the protesters, but his arrival did not yield any results.

Prisoners protested that storage facilities were small, health facilities, including masks, gloves, and hygiene items were scarce and not distributed. Therefore, the coronavirus has become an epidemic among them.

Today, the results of coronavirus tests of several prisoners, including Behnam Sheikh and Alirza Farshi, have not yet been announced.

The general condition of these detainees and a number of others who have not yet been tested for coronavirus, including Hamid Manafi, is said to be deteriorating over time.

It should be noted that a number of inmates of Evin Prison were tested for coronavirus on Tuesday due to signs of coronavirus transmission in Evin Prison, and only Amir Salar Davudi’s test was positive.

A day or two later, as the condition of the other detainees worsened, they were sent for further testing, and it became clear that 11 more people – including Jafar Azimzadeh, Ismail Abdi, Majid Azerpey, Fridun Ahmadi and Said Sharifi – had been infected with the coronavirus. However, their coronavirus test results were negative.

Prisoners of this section contacted their families yesterday and the next day and said that they had severe chills and tremors and lost their sense of smell.
