The Turkish branch of Amnesty International has launched a campaign for the release of Abbas Lisani

The Turkish branch of Amnesty International has launched a signature campaign, calling on all freedom-loving people to take part in the campaign and call on the head of Iran’s judiciary, Abbas Lisani, to be released.

Amnesty International has announced that Abbas Lisani’s sentence has been increased to 15 years.

“Azerbaijani-Turkish activist Abbas Lisani, who was arbitrarily detained in Ardabil prison, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after a very unfair trial by an appellate court.

A judge previously assigned to prosecute Abbas Lisani as a prosecutor has filed a lawsuit against the Reconsideration Court. In April, Iran’s Supreme Court rejected his request for a retrial.

Abbas Lisani spent decades defending the rights of Azerbaijani Turks and was repeatedly arrested for this reason.

Printing a calendar in Azerbaijani Turkish, attending cultural gatherings on World Mother Language Day, and attending a memorial service for those killed in peaceful protests by Azerbaijani Turks were among the reasons for his previous arrests.

It should be noted that these meetings were held in May 2006 and security forces used force, including tear gas and ammunition.

Abbas Lisani has repeatedly faced unfair trials and tribulations on charges of “acting against national security” for his cultural activities.
