In an interview with journalists, East Azerbaijan disciplinary police chief Ali Mohammadi said that the detection of drugs has increased.
According to him, since the beginning of this year, 2 tons of various drugs have been found in East Azerbaijan. This amount was 1.5 tons in the same period last year.
He added that in the first five months of this year, there was a 49 percent increase in the detection of drugs.
Over the past 15 days, 500 kg of various drugs were found, including morphine, opium, hashish and glass.
He also said that 73 smugglers and 2,180 drug dealers had been arrested by police this year.
