The family of Azerbaijani political prisoner Abbas Lisani appealed to the Ardabil prison and court on May 20 against the non-execution of his death sentence.
Seyyid Abdullah Tabatabayi said that no written order had been sent to the activist’s family to allow him to visit. Therefore, he said he did not order the release of Lisani.
Following the incident, the activist’s family became increasingly concerned about his health. On Thursday, Lisani’s request was granted and the activist’s family paid a bail of 800 million tomans. After that, it became known that the letter on the decision was sent to Ardabil prison. It should be noted that in recent weeks, there have been reports of an increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus in the Ardabil prison. The information spread by Abbas Lisani and the families of several political prisoners was refuted by court officials. Abbas Lisani, a political activist sentenced to 15 years in prison, was arrested on April 25, 1397.
