Following a call on social media, on October 18, Tabriz residents, Azerbaijani cultural and democratic activists protested against the continuation of the Armenian-Norduz border and the continued shipment and transfer of weapons to Armenia through the customs and demanded the closure of the customs.
Azerbaijani activist Suleyman Alizadeh, a lawyer, was reportedly beaten by security forces during an anti-Iranian protest rally and taken to an unknown location.
The protests were suppressed by attacks by Iranian security forces, and a large number of Azerbaijani activists were severely beaten and taken to unknown locations.
Following the protests, a large number of cultural activists were detained in various cities inhabited by Azerbaijanis. According to the ANT, the names of a number of arrested activists have been announced.
However, the identities of many of the detainees have not yet been released.
