An Azerbaijani anti-racist activist is being held in solitary confinement in an Iranian prison

Azerbaijani anti-racist activist Yaver Soltani, who is serving a sentence in the Maku prison in western Azerbaijan, is being held in solitary confinement while being banned from meeting and telephone contact with his relatives, ANT reports.

When the relatives of the Azerbaijani political prisoner applied to the Maku prison to meet with him, they were returned by the prison administration and were not allowed to meet with Soltani.

At the same time, Soltani is not allowed to call his family, which has increased his family’s concerns about his health.

Yaver Soltani, a media activist, head of the Maku Times Instagram page and an activist living in Maku, was arrested by Iranian court bailiffs on December 7 and taken to a city prison to serve his sentence.

It should be noted that Yaver Soltani was sentenced to 4 months of administrative detention and 2 years of probation on October 18, 2019 by the 13th Department of the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeal.

The Azerbaijani activist was sentenced to one year in prison on August 22 by the 101st Division of the Maku Criminal Court in the first instance court.
