Azerbaijani activist Meysam Coulani’s prison sentence has more than doubled

Azerbaijani activist Meysam Coulani, who was among those arrested during the Aban protests, was sentenced by Ardabil Criminal Court’s 102nd Department to 13 months in prison and 74 lashes.

Azerbaijani cultural activist Meysam Coulani was sentenced to 13 months in prison and 74 lashes for “violation of public order by committing unethical acts” at a hearing chaired by Gazi Tahir Rasuli by the 102nd Department of the Ardabil Criminal Court.

The verdict was handed down on Tuesday, July 10, and Coulani was notified on the 12th.

Meysam Coulani had previously been sentenced to six months in prison and 74 lashes on 10 April 1398 by the Ardabil Criminal Court’s 102nd Division, presided over by Gazi Akbar Heydari, on charges of “disorderly conduct by committing unusual acts.”
