COURT OF NATIONAL ACTIVIST AKBAR MIGRANT HELD

Akbar Muhajiri

The trial of Azerbaijani cultural activist Akbar Muhajiri was held on December 30. The trial took place in the 1st department of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court with the participation of lawyer Hasan Farhudini and chaired by Gazi Rahim Hamlbar. The cultural activist was charged with “assembling and collaborating.”

It should be noted that Akbar Muhajiri refused to answer the questions of officials during the interrogation. Due to lack of evidence, the CIA used the activist’s case in connection with the November 2019 protests. This step by the Tabriz Information Office indicates that an irrelevant case has been opened against the activist and that there has been illegal pressure.

It should be noted that Akbar Muhajiri was arrested on October 17 this year, one day before the rally in support of Karabakh, by officials of the Information Department at his home in Tabriz. On November 27, he was released from Tabriz Central Prison on bail. It should be noted that Akbar Muhajiri was repeatedly arrested by police and sentenced to prison for his cultural activities.
