MP: What do you want to do to Karaj river?

Mehdi Asgari

Mehdi Asgari, a representative of Karaj, Fardis, Ishtihard and Asara counties in the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, asked the Minister of Energy about the history of the delivery of the Karaj River to Tehran.

“I declare that the responsibility for the consequences of this landslide on the environment, social, economic issues, and the provision of drinking water lies with the relevant officials.”

Mehdi Asgari added:

“With the established tunnel, the flow of water from the Karaj River to the Sixth Irrigation Facility in Tehran will be reduced by 7.5 cubic meters per second, so the population of Master Elbrus has serious questions to answer and some issues need to be clarified.”

1- Is the decline in the quality of drinking water and groundwater in Tehran only on the master of Tehran, or can this problem also arise in the master of Elbrus? As you know, the groundwater level in Elbrus Utan is 1 meter per year, and the subsidence is 30 cm per year.

2- As you know, 78 percent of Alburz’s water needs come from groundwater and 22 percent from surface water, but these percentages are 50-50 percent in Tehran. Mr. Minister, how long will the sources of cities and craftsmen be destroyed in this way?

3- With the implementation of the Karaj River Debi, the proportion of sewage discharged into the river will increase and the water supply from the Beylagan steppe to the city of Karaj will be severely hampered and drinking water will be polluted.

4- According to research conducted by the Tehran Council, the need for water to sustain the life of the Karaj River and its species, as well as to provide groundwater reserves, is at least 183 million cubic meters per year. Let’s be clear, what will be the situation after the river water is transferred and how will the river’s needs be met?
In conclusion, Mehdi Asgari said that the people of Karaj demand compensation for the continuation of the river and its surroundings, so you are responsible for any consequences of landslides on the environment, social, economic issues, and drinking water supply. on those in charge. ”
