Farhad Sarkhosh

Farhad Sarkhosh, the head of the Master’s Bureau for the Revival of Lake Urmu in Western Azerbaijan, said, “Despite the evaporation of Lake Urmu on hot summer days, the lake is in good condition and the flow of water to the lake continues.

The water level of the lake has reached 1,271.37 centimeters and its width is 2,042 kilometers this year, and its volume, according to the latest measurements, was 4 billion meters.

Farhad Sarkhosh continued: “Currently, the water of Jigati, Tatau, Shaharchay, Baradizchay, Savujchay and Gudar rivers flows into Lake Urmu. The water from the Alma Kani mineral reservoir under construction will be delivered to Lake Urmu through a 36-kilometer tunnel. 33 kilometers of the tunnel have been built and the rest will be completed by the end of this year. The Alma Kani Dam in Khana County is 129 kilometers south of the city of Urmu, and some of the water collected there will be discharged into Lake Urmu, and 600 million cubic meters of water will be released into the Urmu Gorge annually during use.
