AZERBAIJANI ACTIVIST SIYAMAK MIRZAY ARRESTED

Azerbaijani activist Siyamak Mirzai was detained by Iranian security officials on December 28 and taken to an unknown location. The incident took place when the activist went to his house in Ardabil.

No information was provided about the reasons for Siyamak Mirzai’s arrest, his whereabouts and the charges against him. Earlier, the activist was sentenced to 3 years in prison by the 36th Department of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, as well as one year in the Qaen region of South Khorasan. Siyamak Mirzai returned to his hometown on the 12th of July this year due to the expiration of his exile. It should be noted that new false accusations were made against the activist by the security forces during his detention.

Thus, in the 26th Department of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Gazi Iman Afshari, Siyamak Mirza was sentenced to 1 year and 10 days in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the Iranian state.”
