Water shortage in Khalkhal and Givi

23 villages

While Khalkhal and Givi are one of the most water-rich regions of South Azerbaijan, the lack of drinking water as a result of mismanagement and incompetence by the government has created many difficulties for the residents of these cities.

Pointing to the lack of drinking water in the villages south of Ardabil, MPs from the cities of Khalkhal and Givi said:

“23 villages in the city are facing severe water shortages, and the water in these villages is supplied by mobile water tankers.”

Bashir Khalaji added:

“We face the problem of water scarcity due to carelessness and lack of proper planning when we have abundant groundwater resources and produce more than 500 million cubic meters of water a year.”

It should be noted that Khalkhal district, as the birthplace of Seyid Jafar Peshawari, who founded the national state of southern Azerbaijan in 1324, is now subordinated to the master of Ardabil.
