The subsistence level in Iran has risen by “three million tomans” in the last six months

Supreme Labor Council

The head of the wage committee of the Supreme Labor Council says that the minimum rate of “subsistence basket” in Iran increased from seven million and five hundred thousand tomans in August to nearly eight million tomans in September. The average basket rate represents the lowest cost of living throughout Iran, except in Tehran and metropolitan areas.

According to an ILNA report on Wednesday, October 30, Faramarz Tawfiqi, head of the wage committee of the Supreme Labor Council, which performs independent calculations of the subsistence basket, announced the subsistence rate in September at 7,900,000 tomans and emphasized the minimum cost of living in Tehran and Metropolises are much more than this figure.

Meanwhile, the subsistence basket rate was announced at 4,940,000 Tomans in March 1998 and 7,500,000 Tomans in August, which shows that the minimum cost of living during the last six months has increased by at least 3 million Tomans (60%). Has found.

The “livelihood basket” is an economic indicator that is usually calculated and announced by trade unions. The main indicator in this regard is the “poverty line”, which is determined and announced by government institutions, but in recent years, government and official institutions have avoided the official announcement of the “poverty line” rate.

However, at the beginning of this year, the Parliamentary Research Center announced the poverty line for four-person households in the last two years as 4,500,000 tomans, which is an 80% increase compared to two years ago.

However, scattered and numerous reports of rising prices and the cost of living show that this figure is far from the reality of people’s lives. As recently, the inspector of the Supreme Assembly of Representatives of the Poverty Line Workers for a family of four announced 10 million Tomans and said that “half of the population of the country is in absolute poverty.”
