A national cultural activist detained in a Evin prison has been diagnosed with a coronavirus

Tehran's Evin prison

Behnam Sheikh, a national cultural activist currently being held in Tehran’s Evin prison, called his family and said he had a high fever.

According to the activist, he applied for a coronavirus test on 19 Mordad, but he was not tested. Officials reportedly gave only a few painkillers.

According to the activist, the response of all prisoners who took the coronavirus test in the 8th health ward of the prison was positive. Those who tested positive for the coronavirus – Amir Salar Davudi, Jafar Azimadeh, Ismail Abdi – were transferred to the 4th ward due to lack of space in the 8th health ward of the prison.

Given that 18 inmates in the prison’s 8th health unit tested positive for the coronavirus, all inmates at that facility are likely to be at risk of contracting or being infected with the coronavirus.

It should be noted that national activists Alirza Farshi, Behnam Sheikh, Hamid Manafi are being held in the 8th health department, where 12 people were tested positive for coronavirus.
