Ali and Reza Vaseghi were sentenced to 5 years in prison

Ali and Reza Vaseghi, Azerbaijani civil activists living in Ardabil, were sentenced by Branch 1 of the Ardabil Revolutionary Court to 3 and 2 years in prison, respectively, according to reports received by the Iwanati news group.

This sentence was orally communicated to these civil activists today, Tuesday, August 19th.

The trial of Ali and Reza Vaseghi was held on August 11 in Branch 1 of the Ardabil Revolutionary Court.

Accordingly, Branch 1 of the Ardabil Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Mahdavirad, charged Ali Vaseghi with 3 years in prison on charges of “participating in collusion to commit a crime against national security through the publication of a night letter” and “propaganda activities against the regime.” Vaseghi has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.

According to these activists, the court documents for issuing these verdicts include publishing the effects of the beating of security forces on their bodies on social networks and writing the phrase “Long live the heroes who are working for freedom” in Reza Vaseghi’s telegram.

The sentences of five years in prison were issued on the basis of these documents, while Mr. Vaseghi was unaware of the existence of such letters in court.
